allowing them to have a life that they never thought they could have. Sport has the power to ignite conversations with the power to change. Nice seeing them cry, it's great knowing it's okay to be an All Black and cry and show the nation if you're sad... it's a good release for your system. On Thursday, Hansen spoke about the importance of speaking out if you are struggling mentally after a tough week in camp with the All Blacks. It is a massive problem in New Zealand he said. Our biggest problem is that we don't give those people that are struggling, permission to say they're struggling. They think they have to hide it. As a result, it bottles up, bottles up and bottles up and then it's like a volcano; when it gets too hot, it blows. Our job as parents, as work colleagues, is to support people. First of all, you've got to know they need the support and, to know that, you've got to know your people. And then you've got to allow them to be vulnerable. And it takes a lot to be vulnerable. So giving them permission, I think, is the key. And then letting them just be vulnerable. It's no different in sport, families or work; we've got to do it better than we're doing. However The AM Show host Mark Richardson has different views. The AM Show was asking viewers how often they cried, and Richardson unleashed with how the public has reacted to the All Blacks' defeat. Just on this, and the motivation for this and the All Blacks, and the drama, and the tears ... just get over yourselves, honestly. All you've done is lost a semi-final in the Rugby World Cup against a bloody good side, in England, he said. This is not a national tragedy. Yes you're going to be disappointed if you're one of the players. And yes, I know how it feels, you'll shed a tear but for God's sake we don't need to hear about it.The All Blacks will face Wales on Friday night in the playoff for third, in what will be Hansen's last match in charge and Kieran Read's last as captain. Warren Gatland and Steve Hansen bring their respective tenures at Wales and New Zealand to a close, with both leaving a positive lasting legacy on the nations they coached.
It was New Zealand who clinched the bronze medal in Tokyo, but Wales can look back on a successful 12 years under Gatland that saw four Six Nations, three Grand Slams, the world number one spot and two World Cup semi-finals.Time for some of the All Black greats to enjoy a moment with their team-mates and families before bowing out of the international game, captain Kieran Read and Sonny Bill Williams.A lot of the players have only ever known Warren, the new era begins now. Everyone is looking forward to that but has to pay their respects to Gats for what he's done for us as a team and a country. He's been a great asset for Welsh rugby. The scoreline probably didn't reflect that. We had nothing to lose, we wanted to throw the ball about and show an intention to go out with a bang.Immensely proud to see a crowd like this, awesome to pull on the jersey. The guys appreciate what it means to be an All Black, I love it It was important we came back and honoured the jersey and the fans and get over the disappointment of last week. It was a tough old game for both sides so I just want to congratulate Wales too.We can enjoy tonight and celebrate what we have achieved, not just at the World Cup but for all the players and staff who have been involved in the past 12 years."I have loved my time in Wales, it's a brilliant country to be a part of."On returning to international rugby one day? "I don't know. We'll wait and see, I'm looking forward to going back to New Zealand with the Chiefs."He collects his medal and waves to the New Zealand fans in the crowd. Not quite the one he wanted, not the third World Cup in a row the All Blacks so desired, but still a stellar offering.Just the one World Cup defeat in Hansen's reign.Follow live with Wide World of Sports as the All Blacks do battle with Wales for third place honours at the Rugby World Cup.
The All Blacks bid farewell to coach Steve Hansen and captain Kieran Read with a 40-17 victory over Wales at Tokyo Stadium, claiming the one World Cup prize that no team sets out to win - third place.
Winger Ben Smith grabbed a brace of tries and Joe Moody, Beauden Barrett, Ryan Crotty and Richie Mo'unga also crossed as New Zealand rebounded from their semi-final loss to England and extended their 66-year winning streak over Wales to 31 tests on Friday.
Both teams came to play and Wales, also saying farewell to coach Warren Gatland, ran the ball at every opportunity to score tries through fullback Hallam Amos and Josh Adams - a Welsh record seventh of the tournament for the winger.
"It was just important we came back and honoured the jersey and the fans and put that one last week behind us," said Hansen.
