Wales' autumn clash against New Zealand has sold out.

The clash with the All Blacks will be the first time the Principality Stadium will be able to host a capacity crowd and it's now been confirmed that all available tickets have been purchased for the autumn curtain-raiser on October 30th.

There are still tickets available for Wales' remaining autumn fixtures - with Wayne Pivac's Six Nations champions taking on South Africa, Fiji and Australia throughout November.

The clash with New Zealand outside of the Test window is something of a necessary evil in Welsh rugby - as its placement in the calendar means Pivac is without his English-based stars for the match.

However, the guaranteed pull of the All Blacks - as demonstrated by this match already having sold out - is exactly why the Welsh Rugby Union feels the need to arrange an extra autumn international despite the fact that Wales will be weakened.

“We have made half-price concessionary tickets for under 17s available across all categories for all four matches for the first time,” said a WRU ticket office spokesperson about the news.

“This has appealed to a younger audience and more families as well as our normal event goers and rugby aficionados.

“This will partly account for the high demand for tickets across all four matches, but we are incredibly pleased with the response from Welsh supporters.

Nobody knew what to expect after the year and a half we have all had, but we are delighted to be able to say that the appetite for Welsh rugby, and of course the All Blacks, is as strong as it has ever been.

“We are all looking forward to a month of celebration at Principality Stadium and we are ready to welcome supporters back safely and securely.

“New challenges will be presented and we will follow Welsh Government and Public Health Wales advice closely ensuring all of the appropriate safety precautions are in place.

“We will worry about these elements so supporters don’t have to and, of course, we have a full refund policy in place so fans can be safe in the knowledge that their money is safe if personal or national circumstances change due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.”

The All Blacks vs Wales Rugby 2021 stadium will be operating staggered entry time. Tickets holders will be alerted to their required entry time and gate number on their ticket closer to game.

Supporters who have successfully purchased tickets are encouraged to download the Principality Stadium ticketing app to be able to receive their digital tickets for the autumn fixtures.

England international Chris Ashton has questioned the decision that will see Wales face New Zealand later this month without some of their best players.

The match on October 30 is outside the autumn Test window, meaning Wayne Pivac will be denied the services of his England-based personnel, with no Welsh player-release arrangement in place with Gallagher Premiership clubs.

Lions Dan Biggar, Louis Rees-Zammit and Taulupe Faletau are thus all off limits to Wales’ head coach.

The situation has perplexed 44-cap England flyer Ashton, who now plays for Worcester Warriors.

Speaking on the BBC Radio 5 Live Rugby Union Weekly Podcast, the much-travelled wide-man said of the call for Wales to face the number one team in the global rankings beyond the three-week period set aside for November Tests: “Who’s organising to play the best team in the world when you can’t have all your players free?

Wales haven’t beaten the All Blacks since 1953 and being without the likes of Biggar, Faletau and Rees-Zammit will make the challenge that much harder for the class of 2021.

But after seeing Welsh rugby take such a major financial hit during the pandemic, the Welsh Rugby Union would doubtless argue they have to do what it takes to get the tills ringing again.

And that will happen for the game against New Zealand.

With the match already a sell-out, ticket-sales alone are expected to gross £6million. There will also be rich pickings extending into seven figures from TV arrangements, sponsorship, corporate hospitality and merchandise.

On the podcast, Ashton and fellow England cap Danny Care also discussed the return to action of Gareth Anscombe after more than two years out and the prospect of the 30-year-old facing the All Blacks.

Care called the Osprey’s comeback display in his first proper game in 25 months “incredible” and noted that Biggar and Sheedy would be missing for the date with the Kiwis, adding: “This will be a great opportunity for Gareth Anscombe to get back in that Wales No. 10 shirt, the shirt that was his pre-injury, and hopefully show the world what he can do again.

“It was a horrific injury that came at a really bad time for him.

“But he inspired the Ospreys to beat the Dragons.”
